bio
With over 25 years of experience in the Stop Motion Industry, Malcolm Lamont has played a critical role in 10 of the highest profile stop motion feature films of the last 20 years. Eight of which have been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. Malcolm Lamont has solidified his position as a character animator amongst the very finest in the animation industry. His list of high profile credits include Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, Aardman Animations’ Pirates: Band of Misfits and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. He has also worked at the Academy Award winning animation studio LAIKA on five of their feature films where he served as a stop motion animator on Coraline and Paranorman, and as Lead Animator on The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and Missing Link. In 2015 Malcolm was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Character Animation at the 42nd Annual Annie Awards for his work LAIKA’s The Boxtrolls.
Originating from England, Malcolm Lamont graduated from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in 1997 with a First Class (BA) honors degree in Animation. After which he began working professionally in stop motion animation on multiple stop motion animated television productions before being accepted to study for his Masters of Arts in Animation at the prestigious Royal College of Art in London. During his tenure at the Royal College of Art, he directed the short film Five O’Clock Shadow, which was an Official Selection at the world-renowned Cannes Film Festival and was also screened world wide at numerous acclaimed film festivals.
In 2019, after previously working with visionary film director Henry Selick on the award winning stop motion feature film Coraline, he was invited to team up once again with Selick and serve as Animation Supervisor for the Netflix stop motion animated feature film Wendell and Wild.
